Hotbot originally launched in 1996 by Wired Digital and has grown to become a major player in the search engine market. In late 1998, Lycos acquired Hotbot. To this day, Hotbot is powered on the Inktomi engine for their search capabilities and the Open Directory Project for their directory based system.
