Lycos

Lycos first started in early 1994 as a University project which later became a commercial operation and has expanded to a large scale search engine. Only this year did Lycos make the shift from being an exclusive search engine to also offering directory-based listings. Last year, Lycos acquired Wired Digital's Hotbot and continues to operate it under the same name.

Spidering	Lycos will spider or follow all links it finds on your website and index them into their database. You can control the degree of spidering through a standardized robots governing file or META tags.
No Abuse Tolerated	Lycos will not index websites that try to "Spam" or abuse META tags into their database
Popularity Counts	If lots of websites link to your site, then your site will be ranked higher in Lycos' rankings.
Additional Information	Lycos indexes all visible text and ALT image tags but does not support frames, image maps, HTML comments nor META Tags. Lycos is sensitive to special characters such as "%, &, =, ?" which should be avoided.
Submission Time	Getting listed in Lycos takes about 3 weeks.
Special Triggers	Lycos has special reserved triggers which can help assess your rankings and positioning once you've submitted your website to Lycos.
